Noise Engineering New Modules!
Meet Alia! A new generation of modules!
A lot of people were disappointed when Noise Engineering announced the end of Basimilus Iteritas Alter, Manis Iteritas, Cursus Iteritas, and Ataraxic Iteritas due to the discontinuation of the CPU used in them. But only a couple of months later, Noise Engineering announced its new module platform called Alia and they brought back Basimilus Iteritas and Manis Iteritas, and introduced a brand new oscillator called Debel Iteritas.
The most exciting thing about these new modules is their swappable firmware that allows you to change their functionality and features just by uploading a new (and free!) firmware. All three modules are 10HP, have an updated look, and from the first demos sound amazing!
Let’s have a first look at each new module:
Basimilus Iteritas Alia
The beloved Basimilus Iteritas, a digital drum voice uses a simple six-oscillator additive and FM synthesizer with waveform, harmonic spread, and envelope controls to create all sorts of drum (but not only) sounds. You can build a full techno drum kit or even use it as a thick bass voice by tweaking its very responsive and straightforward controls! A now classic module that is not just a simple update of its previous version but a fresh iteration that will be way more useful once the new firmware options will be available for download.
Manis Iteritas Alia
Another famous module, the Manis Iteritas, is a voice that is based on the Basimilus but it was designed to be more gritty and aggressive by using only sawtooth waves that are manipulated, modulated, and distorted! It can also do drums & bass sounds, leads, and pushed to the extreme to give some gritty and dark sounds like nothing else.
Debel Iteritas Alia
The brand-new module on this series looks very exciting! Debel Iteritas is a hybrid additive phase-modulation voice with Three synthesis algorithms that span classic FM plucks and basses to all-out additive mayhem. This one is a synth voice that is focused more on melodic stuff rather than drum sounds but still have the vibe and energy of its two other brothers!
All three modules cost 385$ which is just a bit more than their predesessors but give you a ton of flexibility since the new Alia platform is all about swapping their firmware and having another module with each firmware. We’ll just have to wait and get them in our hands for a full hands-on testing and review to let you know of our thoughts!
